Becky Evetts was born July 2, 1945 and died from pancreatic cancer on May 25, 2006. She lived a very positive and energetic life…full of fun, family, and friends. Becky was raised in Houston, Texas as the middle child with an older brother (Gary Lowe) and a younger brother (Jim Lowe.) She graduated from Marion High School, and her sweet personality and outgoing spirit earned her the title of “Harvest Highlights Queen” of Marion High. She later graduated from Univerisity of Houston with a degree in education.
She was married to Sam Evetts, and together they had 4 children (Beau Evetts, Chad Evetts, Brooke Evetts McDaniel, and Brandi Evetts Monteverde). Becky stayed home to raise her children and she was truly the backbone and foundation for her family. She later spent 20+ years in education (ESL teacher, classroom teacher, and recieved her masters to become assistant principal at Rummel Creek Elementary and Spring Forest Middle.)
Becky, Sam and their children lived an adventurous and loving life together. Becky’s family continued to grow as her 4 children got married and 5 grandchildren entered her life. Unfortunately, Becky didn’t get to experience living life as a grandmother for too long-her oldest grandchild was 6 years old when she died from pancreatic cancer. Becky was always smiling, always put others first, was always up for a good time, and was 150% devoted to her family and friends. She even went out of her way to make the day of a stranger a little better by smiling, talking, helping with the door, anything to make others feel special. That was Becky’s true gift…to make others feel like her friend.
Becky got Sam a maltese puppy about 7 months before she died. She didn’t want Sam to be alone in the house after she passed away, so she went out and bought an adorable maltese named Sally. Becky fell in love with Sally, and Sally slept by her side throughout all of her sick days. This event, Paws for Pancreatic Cancer, was Becky’s idea. So, I hope you find it in your heart to be part of this event to raise awareness and funds for pancreatic cancer and to also keep Becky Evetts’ name, spirit and memory alive!
